Former France midfielder Samir Nasri announced on Sunday that he was officially retiring from professional football after a career that started in 2004. “It was just an injection of vitamins because I was sick,” the former Olympique de Marseille, Arsenal and Manchester City player, whose career effectively ended last year after a short stint at Anderlecht, told Le Journal du Dimanche newspaper.Nasri made his name with Marseille before moving to Arsenal for a fee of £12million in 2008 where he worked under Arsene Wenger for three years.The French international joined Manchester City in 2011 for £25m and helped the team win two Premier League titles and the FA Cup over six years with the club.Nasri won two Premier League titles, in 2011-12 under Roberto Mancini and 2013-14 under Manuel Pellegrini, at the Etihad Stadium – playing 46 times in all competitions in both seasons.He has played for Turkish side Antalyaspor, West Ham and Anderlecht over the past four years and scored five goals for France while picking up 41 caps between 2007 and 2013.Click here for our site’s complete coverage of the coronavirus pandemic.
